last-minute Gig listing!
I just arrived back today from a week-long hiatus. Ah, the relaxation of the East Coast beaches.
As soon as I touched down in the Burbank airport, I turned on my phone and received a voicemail. I was given a 45 minute spot in this huge Fall Festival being held in San Dimas. I will be opening for the Festival, which is said to host about 1,000 people this Friday and Saturday. The Festival will have live music, arts, crafts, rummage sale, and childrens activities, as well as a farmers market arena. It sounds like some good fun, and i'm stoked to be invited to open for it. If you're lookin to find some good buys and shop around w/ friends. . . . . .or show me around a farmers market, come out by 4pm. That's when I go on! go to my shows listing to get the address, or www.ccvnow.com for complete details about the Festival! Hope to see you there! Summer writing
The summer has come and gone, and has left a bitter-sweet taste in my mouth. I guess you could call it a season of growth, but that's me displaying a meager attempt to be optimistic. I took the summer to write and create for the next project, and although I think it was a successful summer with writing, it came at a high price.
Through time and experiences, however, a number of songs were created, and a few that I'm excited to say will be making the next project. One in particular was done on the piano, tentatively titled "One Smile". For those who came to the Grace Cafe show in August got to hear it played live for the first time. It's taken a special place in my heart. As I'm not too familiar with 'heart-breaker' tunes, this one tends to dance on the line between 'heartbreaker' and 'I need a tissue and a 1/2 gal of ice cream' kind of tune. I'm traveling to the other coast for a week starting tomorrow (monday). I'll be spending some time on the Maryland beaches, the same beaches I grew up going to on family vacations all growing up. In fact, "Coastal Winds" (on the EP) was written on the porch of the beach condo that I'm going to. I'm looking forward to having a lot of time to dedicate to writing....I've got a lot of ideas and half-lyrics up in my head. I can't wait to bring it all out onto paper. Cheers!! I'm playing tonight! Got plans?

Last night was great, man. For those who made it out and were able to bring some clothes to donate, more power to ya! It's great to see people going out of their way to help others. It's not so common in such a harshly individualized frame of minds we live amongst.
The show was a lot of fun. . . . .sweaty, but fun! =) Martin was a BLAST to play with. I just finished watching the vid for the evening and I'll tell ya, that guy is fun to watch! He was jumpin around, hair flyin every which way. . . . . sheer greatness. And Amber Rose....my goodness, people, those of you who didn't come missed out! Her voice is brilliant and her lyrics moving. Amber and I are talking about possibly playing together again, so if you missed last night.....be sure to check out the gig if we team up again. Everyone who came was so much fun. It's great to play for a crowd who's all just having a good time together. It's like we leave the place one big happy music-lovin family. fo sho. I stepped out on a limb last night and played a new song, but on the piano! It's one I wrote for my little princess of a niece. I'll tell you guys, I swear I'm not bias, but she really is the most adorable thing ever, and I miss her a bunch. She's back east with her awesome mom and dad. =) Oh yeah, the paintings from the shows are available for sale now! There were a bunch of people asking about it last night. Well, it's all on kylemegginson.com in the 'STORE' section. You can check out the paintings and pick your size, gloss or matte finish, and everything! It's sweetness.....i think my fav is the martini glass. Anywho.....next up San Dimas, April 17! Gotta love the coffee house gigs.....so chill and laid back......slip me a cup of joe and I'm good to go. Mucho love, Stay in touch and stay chill, kyle Last Night. . .
Santa Maria is beautiful! First of all, the drive was breath-taking. Out of smoggy LA into clear ocean views, foothills, vineyards. . . a fresh reminder of beauty away from industry. When we arrived, we met up with Kyle Davelaar. He was promoting the event, and he also played a few tunes last night. AWESOME guy. Much thanks to Rocky and Dan for also making the night possible.
I played a few tunes from the EP and a few tunes for the upcoming project. The night was a lot of fun, after biting off a few nerves of course. During the break in between sets, a guy came up to me and said he was going to devote "Beautiful Morning" to that -special someone-. Be bold, dude. Be bold. =) I also now have to write a song about my experience with Sal (sp?). I won't forget, buddy. The people in that area were super cool and really fun to talk to. I even ran into an old friend while there. Shirley!!! =) The street team was flawless last night. I couldn't believe the entire team made the 3-hr treck out to Santa Maria. I have underestimate their devotion. My most sincere apologies. You rock!! All in all, a great time and a great experience. Well, except for the drive home... . . . falling asleep at the wheel is never a good thing, friends. Thank goodness I had Katie to keep me awake. Next stop: House concert in Pasadena on Feb 7! check "SHOWS" on the homepage for details! Stay chill! Kyle Santa Maria
Well, we're set to go for the show in Santa Maria. . . although. . . the bags aren't yet packed, the gear isn't stowed, and the cars need gas. Ah the joys of planning!
It's gonna be a fun trip though. We've got a couple carloads of peeps we're hauling up north on a 3 hr trip to the beautiful city of Santa Maria. Everyone who's coming seems pretty stoked about the whole deal, which always gets me more excited. I have no idea what to expect up there, but we'll be sure to have a good time with whatever happens. What I DO know is that there's another artist also playing that night. . . and just so happens his first name is, ironically, Kyle. So maybe this'll turn into a little Kyle & Kyle duet shindig. I can see it now, posters, billboards, Goodyear blimp flashing "Kyle & Kyle in concert tonight!" Call me a dreamer, but when it all goes down, i won't say "I told ya so". =) Hopefully we'll catch you at the Feb 7th show. Ever been to a house concert? peace, -k-y-l-e Chrimmas gifts
Well happy 2009! Like other sappy sapsters, I too love the holidays, especially Christmas time. I find it special because I get to travel back east to see my family and old friends again, and I'm a big family guy, so it's special to me.
I saw on the news last night about John Travolta's family and the recent tragic loss of their son. Made me aware of the fact that for some of us, the Christmas season is one of meloncholy reminders, remembering those whom we've lost along the way. I guess those reminders can be a good thing, though, because it is these times that we are reminded how blessed we are to have had such people in our lives. All in all, I hope the season was one of making new memories, reminiscing old ones, and once again finding our ground on the importance which relationships carry in our lives. I, for one, look forward to relaxing during the Christmas holiday. But for some reason, I tend to forget about all the unnecessary jazz that comes with Christmas; shopping for gifts is one in particular. Now, don't get me wrong, some of us have a lot of fun trying to find that one special gift for someone and feeling that anticipated excitement of their reaction. But, all this comes at a price. Meaning, it costs MONEY! =) And right now, money is something I don't have much of. So I had to get creative with my gift-giving this year. My manager's been reminding me (as softly as possible) that I need to keep writing; poetry, thoughts, lyrics, whatever I can think of. Sure, I haven't been the most disciplined, but I figured this would be a great opportunity to discipline myself to write, AND I could write about something that really hits me deep; my family. So for Christmas, I worked on 2 songs, which in the end I had enough time to produce them myself and actually give the songs to my fam. It seems to be the trend nowadays to write angry, depressing lyrics about family experiences. Sad, but for some of us, these are the only memories we have. Sure, we've all got our distasteful memories, but I wanted to concentrate on all the joy my family brings me. Writing these 2 songs was an incredible personal experience for me and made me appreciate my roots. The first song was about the feeling of being far away from home, but looking forward to the holiday because that is the time I get to see them. The second song was written about my neice, the most recent (and most beautiful) addition to the family. I wrote it as a lullaby and was a gift for my sister and her husband. The lullaby is unique as it's the first song I composed on piano. It was awesome to play the tunes for my fam. Tears all around. =) Who knows, maybe one of them will make the next album, and will show the sappy side of me. Digital, shows, and ho-ho-ho's
ok, so the title is cheesy, but it enticed you enough to click on it, so I assume it served its purpose!
I also assume you already checked out the video on the homepage, showing clips of the first set of the release party. People tend to like videos. The show was such a blast! So much work put in to it, and it felt like the night had come and gone so quickly. I was definitely experiencing all the emotions beforehand, but so many people pitched in to make this event spectacular. Brand new news, the album just went digital! You can find the link on the homepage, or just click here, but the album "Bliss and Ignorance" is available for digital download on digstation.com! If you check out the site, be sure to leave a review if you already picked up the album! It helps out muy mucho! We've got some shows booked for the new year, too. There's one in Santa Maria on January 23rd, which, I know, is far. BUT we're planning to do a road trip with a bunch of peeps. Cuz if you know me, 1 thing I love is road trips and people. That's 2 things, but whatever. If you want to come hang out, let me know! It'll be an awesome trip! We'll all pile in cars/SUV's, head up to the area, hang out in town and cause some ruckus, jam through the show, and head back at ungodly hours of the night. I just formed another forum topic labeled "Road Trippers". If you want in, post it and we'll make it happen! Welp, I think that's about it, party people! I hope you have a great holiday (hence the 'ho ho hos' in the title), and we'll see you in 2009!! -kyle Coming together...
Wow. Less than 10 days away. Can you believe it? For those who have been following along in the process, it seems like this day would never come! But here we are, and things seem to be moving faster than ever.
I'm really excited about getting into the venue and decking it out to match the themes of the cd cover. So far there have been no snags in the planning and preparation. I'm working on a new song in the midst of all the chaos, and if it's able to be finished before the show, I might play it for everyone. It still needs a lot of work, but I'm liking where it's going so far. I didn't have much time to get into much detail in this blog, but I at least wanted to catch eveyone up a bit on what's goin on behind the scenes.......speaking of which, did you catch the vid of the band practice? stay chill, and we'll see ya on the 7th!! Kyle New vid up asap, yo
So, recently the band has had problems getting together to practice due to lack of spaces available to practice in! Go figure!
So I had the idea of having the guys over to my apt. That's right, to practice. Full gear. Tight space. Complete awesomeness. I went to guitar center and picked up some needed materials for the practice to be done, and now I've got a drum set in the corner of my place. If you would have asked me last week if I ever would have a drum kit in my place, I would have laughed. . . . . . So we got together last night and jammed out some of the tunes we're gonna play at the Release Show on Nov 7. To make things fun, I asked a film buddy of mine, Carlos, to grab some of it on film. So he's working on editing something cool for everyone to catch a look at. Unfortunately, Joseph our bassist couldn't make it to practice that night. . . . . omething to do with work.......So he won't be seen on the vid. BUT, needless to say, we should be seeing an interesting vid on the website soon enough! Cheer Carlos on as he works his editing magic and makes us look good! Cheers, K-meggalicious |
